グリッタリング・プライズ/ザ・ベスト・オブ・シンプル・マインズ [VHS]
新しくデビュー当時からのPVなどを集めたSEEN THE LIGHTS が出て、このビデオともサラバイできるかなと思っているファンの人、甘いです。このビデオにはこのビデオでしか見れないものが殆どです。確かにメジャーな曲しか入っていませんが、ジムのインタビューも貴重ですし、SEEN THE LIGHTS では明らかに違うPV、特にライヴ映像のものがとても貴重です。ライヴ映像もののPVが好きか嫌いか、どちらかに分かれると思いますが、そもそもちゃんとした、まとまったライヴ映像というのが少ないシンプル・マインズだけに、やはり見ておいて損はありません。これもDVD化されない限り、ファンの間では、これから希少価値が上がるでしょうね。
Pure Heart Simple Mind- Wisdom Stories from a Life in Japan
Some of the stories read like poetry or trance inductions while others are beautiful stories related in the words of one of his teachers or neighbours, yet clearly infused with the connecting thread of his own wisdom and understandings. Badenhop has a keen eye for detail and is successful in capturing the essence of the words and the underlying spirit of the people that he meets on a daily basis. The most touching stories for me were those in which Badenhop relates the experiences of elderly Japanese women. His respect for their strength and depth of character through difficult lives is evident and there are many sections that I found myself turning and reading aloud to my wife or coming back to myself later.
The book is divided into nine chapters, each of which is introduced by a Japanese kanji character and a short description of the aspects of Japanese traditional culture illustrated by the story. For example, Chapter 5 examines the concepts of patience and endurance and introduces the essays with:
In Japanese culture, patience, and subdued expression are important virtues. Many is the time I’ve heard a Japanese mother tell her child to endure a little bit longer so as not to inconvenience others. The importance of ‘suffering quietly’ is highly valued.
Today, Japan is faced by many problems ' social, educational, and economic ' and much of the traditional wisdom embodied in these essays such as patience, endurance, and purity of heart have much to offer the younger generations of Japanese people as well as people from different cultures around the world.
In these troubling times of nuclear fears and economic meltdowns, Badenhop has offered us a beautiful book to keep nearby to remind ourselves of the strengths of traditional Japan and the inner beauty of its people. Read it as poetry, as trance, or as heartwarming stories ' you may find yourself seeing the world of Japan and beyond with fresh eyes.

シンプルマインズ初のＤＶＤです。全てのプロモクリップと全米で大ヒットしたストリートファイティングイヤーズ発表後のライブと傑作ニューゴールドドリームの頃の貴重なライブ＋珍しい初期の頃のライブ等を収録したお買い得なＤＶＤです。８０年代を懐かしむ人たちにぜひ見てもらいたいと思います。尚私の持っているＤＶＤはＵＫ盤でリ-ジョンフリーなのですが、これはＵＳ盤のようなので、通常のプレーヤーでは見られないかもしれません。

これはかっこいいです。某輸入盤店で絶賛されていて
初めてこのバンド聞いてみましたが、めちゃ良かったです。
TROUBLEというとドゥームのイメージだったんですが、
これはどちらかというと正統派メタル、というかメタル、です。
ギターリフがうねり、また歌がいいんだ。
5曲目のバラードがいいアクセントになり最後まで飽きずに
聴き通せます。
日本のレコード会社の洋楽部門の皆さん、素晴らしいCDはまだまだ
沢山ありますよ。CDが売れない、と嘆く前にもっといい音楽を
発掘する努力をしなさい、とか言ってみたくなるくらいかっこよかった！
Best of Simple Minds
SIMPLE MINDS 『The Best of SIMPLE MINDS』（2001）
今作は前Best盤の拡大版と言っていい内容であるだけではなく、Single／Edit Version を中心に、あえてAlbum Version も適度に採用したりしてバランスのよい構成になっている。
そのうえ全曲リマスターされている点も見逃せない。エレクトリックな路線から骨太なロックまで多彩な表現をしてきた SIMPLE MINDS。
リーダーのJIM KERR がこだわってきた深みのある独特のサウンドは、やはりクリアーな音で聴きたいものだ。
一連のオリジナルアルバムもリマスターされているが、それらにはボートラでも Single Version 等の収録は皆無なので、このたび選曲されているとおりしっかりとSingle Version で多数収録している点が嬉しい。
レーベルの問題もあるけれど、そろそろ30年の歴史を総括したような回顧録も欲しくなってきたこの頃である。
